Supporting Databases
The UUCP support files are in the /etc/uucp directory.
- Devices
- Contains information concerning the location and line speed of the automatic call units (modems) and direct links.
- Dialers
- Contains character strings required to negotiate with automatic call units (ACUs) or modems in establishing connections to remote computers.
- Systems
- Contains information needed by the uucico daemon and the cu program to establish a link to a remote computer. This file contains information such as the name of the remote computer, the name of the connecting device associated with the remote computer, when the computer can be reached, the telephone number, the login ID, and the password.
- Dialcodes
- Contains dial-code abbreviations that can be used in the phone number field of Systems file entries.
- Permissions
- Defines the level of access that is granted to remote users using uucp or uux when they attempt to transfer files or remotely execute commands on your computer.
- Poll
- Defines computers that are to be polled by your station and when they are polled.
- Sysfiles
- Assigns different or multiple files to be used by uucico and cu, such as Systems, Devices, and Dialers files.
The subsections that follow provide details on the structure of these files so you can edit them.
There are several other files that can be considered part of the supporting database; these files are not directly related to the process of establishing a link and transferring files. The files, Maxuuxqts, Maxuuscheds, and remote.unknown, are described briefly in "Other UUCP Files".
